Choosing a comb and brush for thinning hair
The wrong comb and rough brushing can add breakage. Here is how to choose and use one gently.

A wide-tooth comb for wet hair
Wet hair stretches and snaps more easily. A wide-tooth comb detangles with less pulling.
A soft brush for dry hair
A brush with soft bristles or rounded tips suits styling. Avoid sharp brushes on the scalp.
Start at the ends
Work out tangles from the ends first, then move up to the roots bit by bit. Do not drag straight from root to tip.
Clean your comb
Remove hair and wash combs regularly so oil and product residue do not go back onto the scalp. Read daily hair care.

Are wooden combs better?
A smooth wooden comb can feel gentle. What matters is smooth, blunt teeth.
How often should I brush?
Enough to detangle and style. Over-brushing does not help. See hair-loss myths.
