A dry scalp, even in humid weather
A dry scalp is not only a cold-country problem. Hot water, harsh shampoo and air-conditioned offices can all play a part.

How it feels
The scalp feels tight, flakes are fine and white, and hair looks dull. That differs from the oily, yellowish flakes of dandruff.
Everyday causes
Very hot showers, harsh shampoo, washing several times a day and long hours in an air-conditioned office can dry the scalp.
What to try
Use lukewarm water, a gentle shampoo and a light massage. Conditioner goes on the hair, not the scalp. Drink enough water through the day.
When to get help
If dryness comes with redness, stinging or thick patches, see a doctor. At a consultation, the scalp check shows the real condition on screen. See what a scalp check shows.

Should I put oil on my scalp?
Some people are comfortable with a little oil, but too much can leave residue. Start with a gentle shampoo routine.
Are a dry scalp and dandruff the same?
Not always. Dry flakes are finer; dandruff is often oily. A check helps tell them apart.
