Itchy scalp: common causes and habits that help
Occasional itching is normal, but constant itching disrupts sleep and work. Here are the usual causes and when to see a doctor.

Common causes
Leftover sweat, product residue, dandruff, a dry scalp or irritation from a new product are among the causes we often hear about.
Do not scratch with nails
Scratching can scrape the scalp and make irritation worse. Massage gently with your fingertips when washing.
Check your routine
Did you recently change shampoo? Is hair left damp under a tudung or helmet? Small routine changes often help.
When to see a doctor
Severe itching, sores, pus, spreading redness or patchy hair loss should be checked by a doctor. Cosmetic treatment waits until the scalp is calm. See suitability.
