Scalp cleansing: why product build-up deserves attention
Dry shampoo, oil, sweat and styling products can build up. Here is how to cleanse the scalp gently without overdoing it.

What build-up is
A layer of oil, sweat, dead skin and products not rinsed out fully can leave the scalp feeling heavy, smelly or itchy, and make hair look flat.
Rinse longer
Many people rinse too quickly. Rinse until hair feels clean, especially at the back of the head and behind the ears. Read how to shampoo properly.
Do not overdo it
Scrubbing hard or using a clarifying product every day can dry the scalp. Gentle, consistent cleansing is better.

How often should I deep-cleanse?
It depends on your scalp and the products you use. A consultant can suggest a routine after seeing your scalp.
Does a scalp brush help?
A soft silicone brush can help spread shampoo. Use it gently; do not scrub hard.
