Scalp odour: causes and what helps
Scalp odour is more common in hot weather and under a tudung or helmet. These habits usually help.

Why it happens
Sweat, oil and moisture trapped for a long time can cause odour. Tying or covering hair before it is fully dry is a common cause.
Dry it fully
Dry the scalp, not just the hair, before wearing a tudung or cap. A dryer on medium is better than leaving it damp. Read how to dry hair.
Change and wash head coverings
Tudungs, underscarves, bandanas and helmet pads hold sweat. Wash them often and change daily where possible. See choosing an underscarf.
When to see a doctor
Strong odour with pain, pus or a rash should be checked by a doctor. For cosmetic scalp care, see Xenocell Boost.

Should I wash my hair every day?
In hot weather and if you sweat a lot, washing more often with a gentle shampoo is usually comfortable. See how often to wash.
Does dry shampoo help?
It can absorb oil for a while, but it does not replace washing and can leave residue.
