A red, sore or patchy scalp: signs to stop and get checked

Some scalp conditions need a doctor, not a salon or a cosmetic centre. These are the signs to take seriously.

Signs that need a doctor

Spreading redness, ongoing soreness, pus, wounds that do not heal, thick scaling or bald patches that appear suddenly should be checked by a doctor or dermatologist.

Why cosmetic treatment should wait

Cosmetic treatment on an inflamed scalp can add discomfort. We advise clients to wait until the scalp is calm. See suitability.

What to do meanwhile

Stop new products, avoid colour and heat, use lukewarm water and do not scratch. Note when it started and what products you used.

After a doctor has treated it

Once your doctor confirms it is under control, you can discuss cosmetic options. Bring your doctor's advice to the consultation.
