Helmets and hair: tips for motorcyclists
Many people in the Klang Valley ride every day. Here is how to look after your scalp and hair under a helmet without compromising safety.

Safety first
Helmets are compulsory and save lives. These tips are about making them more comfortable for your scalp, not avoiding them.
Sweat and friction
Heat and sweat under a helmet can leave the scalp oily and itchy. A loose helmet can rub on hair. Make sure it fits properly and the padding is clean.
A clean inner layer
A thin bandana or cloth cap under the helmet can absorb sweat. Wash it often and clean the helmet padding as the maker advises.
After riding
Let your scalp breathe and wash your hair if you sweated a lot. Read oily scalp and do caps cause baldness.

Do helmets cause baldness?
There is no strong evidence. The usual issues are sweat, hygiene and friction, which good habits reduce.
Can I ride after treatment?
Ask your consultant when it is fine to wear a helmet again after treatment and follow the aftercare guidance.
